Middle skipped by DiP14
The official release skipped the middle of this 3-day run at the Wang Theater, using most of the two shoulder days instead. Don't be discouraged:
...
in picking cherries it forewent some of this date's good stuff for some lesser material - probably in an attempt not to repeat songs (though that release is bookended by two Dews). Granted, this night isn't as good as the next night, and definitely not as good as the previous night, but as always for '73 there are a few performances not to be missed. 1st Set. A bit flat for the first few "warm-up songs". The matrix has better width/hall here, if not a little wobble. By Mexicali all are playing hot, uptempo. Jer races, Bobby backs into Keith's hot rod. The one from two days earlier is on Dick's 14 but this has better sound. The rest of the set is below average for '73 except for Big River, which was great each day. 2nd Set. The set is diced by fire-code interruptions and talk, but some of the banter's pretty funny, even if the flow is hatched. After one warm-up song, the machine takes flight and They Love Each Other starts a hot series. The back-to-your-seats banter even continues lyrically (didn't they know we'd be listening to this 50 years later?!) - which doesn't at all mar a hot, Me & My Uncle (bottle/jaw). The set hums along with an Uncle John's where Jer starts in a different key/weird diatonic scale, but it works. IMO, really great UJBs are rare. Either Bobby can't remember the lyrics or the band can't tighten, but here Jer fires everybody. Playin' is nice and the rest is average except for a joyous GDtRFB. There's no encore but the length of the set makes up for that. 1st Set: C 2nd Set: B- Overall = 3 stars Highlights: Mexicali Blues - uptempo hot rod Big River - not quite the next night, but great They Love Each Other - with classic banter Me & My Uncle - south Colorado & get back to yr seat Uncle John's Band - a bit unique Goin' Down the Road Feeling Bad - was great on this tour SOURCES: The gardner_4337 is slightly clearer than the clugston (they need -1% pitch correction). The miller has added wow & flutter from some kind of transport fluctuation (e. g. the beginning of MaMU).
